The mat is relatively heavy and the bottom is made from a non-slip material that really keeps it in place, even on smooth tile. The edges are angled so that you don't trip over them (something I was a little concerned about), and the top fabric is a high quality, durable, easy to clean surface that's available in a variety of rich colors. After a number of rather long sessions in my ceramic-tiled kitchen, I have to admit that I truly notice a difference in the way I feel when I'm done. No achy back and I simply feel less tired overall.
